Sheikh Daud eulogised popularly as “Al- Gbedewy” in reference to his town of birth, Gbede town, in Oyo State, is a native of Ilorin, Kwara State. His genealogy can be traced to the popular Ibadi-ori compound, Pakata, Ilorin Kwara State. Sheikh Daud was christened with the nickname “Alfanla” at birth, and his father Sheikh Abdul-Majeed Muhammad Thani Adejumo Eleha, predicted that the child will go on to attest to his nickname in the future.

The institute started with the teaching of Quran recitation and moral instruction at a space in Isale0oja Agege, and in the year 1977, the institution had already produced a number of students both male and female. The institute continued to grow in leap and bounds this was evident as at December 1979 when the institute had its first convocation ceremony, where it had first graduate with the performing certificate in Arabic and Islamic studies.
